"LOVE ON THE RUN is a wild ride from start to finish. Ms. Winters does a spectacular job weaving the mystery into a spiderish web of intrigue."

Romance In Color 4.5 Stars
"I was left with a feeling that can only be likened to...a very fast roller coaster. This powerful story is packed with one exciting incident after another."

Bree smiled at his innocence. He was a good-hearted person. "You’re the good kind of naive, Graham. What’s right is right. Only, it’s not that simple when the very wealthy are involved. Go to any high society party and I’ll bet you that at least fifty percent of the marriages there were arranged. Not the same as you would find in the Middle East or someplace like that, but business agreements between parents, families, leaving people with little choices are very common. They find a way to make it happen, and my mother is determined to do that."

"I don’t see you as the type that could be forced to marry anyone," Graham said. "I think you think your mother is stronger than you because she was for a long, long time. But you’re not a little girl anymore. You’re a woman. Your own woman. You have to keep that in mind when you deal with her."

Bree nodded. "You’re right. It’s so much easier to just run away from her, but I need to stand up to her. It’s just…"

"Try it with me, Bree." Graham sat up straight. "Pretend I’m your mother and I’m telling you you’re going to marry this Trapp guy and that’s the last of it."

Bree smiled. "Stop it."

"No, do it." He laughed a bit. "Bree, that’s enough of this nonsense. I’ve decided you’re going to marry James Trapp and that’s it. You’ll do it for the family."

"Never." Bree pressed her lips together to stifle her laugh. "You can’t force me to do anything. I’m twenty-five years old and I want my own life."

"You don’t know what you want," he said. "I know what’s good for you. It’s up to you, it’s all up to you Bree. You can save this family or be the final nail in its coffin."

Graham noticed the tender look that immediately came to Bree’s face. No more giggling. "What’s wrong?"

Bree tried to control her emotions. "She said that. She…said I would have to do it, or else the family would die and it would be my fault. She…"

"Damn Bree, I’m sorry." Graham reached for her and wrapped an arm around her. "I was just thinking of something to say. I didn’t know."

"It’s okay." Bree bit her lower lip to stifle the tears. She put her head down. "She can be kind of awful sometimes. She tells me that I’m such an embarrassment, and I don’t care about anyone. That I’ve caused so much pain in the family that… that I could…I had to do this to make it up to all of them."

Graham felt anger towards a woman he didn’t even know. "She didn’t mean it, Bree. She’s had a hard time of it, and she’s desperate."

"I’ve had a hard time of it, too." Bree looked up, touched by the compassion in Graham’s eyes. "He was my Daddy. He wasn’t always there for me, but he was still my Daddy. I wish I could help the family, but all I ever do is make things worse. And all she ever does is make me feel like the devil for it. I had to get away. No one can understand."

"I understand, Bree." Graham’s hand went to her face and caressed her cheek. She wasn’t so tough after all. "I understand."

Bree suddenly felt a swell of emotion from the pit of her belly reach throughout her body. She remembered their kiss, and the moments since then when she had felt an attraction to him. She felt a little dizzy.

"Graham." His name came like a whisper from her mouth.

The sound of her whispering his name, the sight of the soft parting of her lips created a sense of urgency in Graham. His body reacted without warning or reason. His lips came down on hers with tender affection. All he wanted in this world was to comfort her.
