My
Darling KateZebra Date: July 1997
ISBN: 0-8217-5686-9
A sensual historical romance set in the eighteenth century Maryland Colony.
On the shores of the Chesapeake, Nicholas Talbot scans the
faces of the disembarking passengers for his beloved Alyssa, who
sailed from England to the Maryland Colony to be his bride and
mistress of his plantation. But to his shock, he finds himself
facing her older sister Kate, who announces Alyssa has fallen in
love with another man and that she has come to take her place.
Kate tries to conceal her humiliation at Nicholas's cruel
rejection. Her own traitorous passion for her sister's fiance won
out when Alyssa begged Kate to travel to the Colonies in her
stead. Though the plight of Nicholas's orphaned young cousins
gives Kate a reason to stay, each day is a torment of unrequited
desire. Then, just as a fragile trust begins to grow between
Nicholas and Kate, Alyssa arrives in America, ready to claim what
is hers -- daring Kate to fight for the man and the love she
refuses to surrender at any cost.

EXCERPT:
Kate raised her head, knowing her expression must reveal her near panic. Nicholas gazed down at her, and the look on his face stopped her tumbling thoughts and half-formed fears.
His dark eyes burned into hers, searing away her doubts until all that left in her mind and heart was the love and desire she felt for him.
He placed the candle on the mantel then came back to her. She moved into his arms as if she'd done it a hundred times, parting her lips in anticipation of his kiss.
Nicholas did not make her wait overlong before his mouth covered his, his lips moving across furs, leaving heat behind wherever he touched.
"Oh, God, Kate," he whispered, his warm breath fluttering inside her mouth. "I have wanted you so long. From the first night you came here."
And what else, she burned to ask him. Is there more to the feeling you have for me this night than the need of a man for a woman?
