Biography

After spending 25 years in Austria, Nina Beaumont relocated to Seattle in July 1995 on the strength of a gut feeling that this was the right place for her to go.

Nina, who is of Russian descent and whose family tree includes the Stroganoff family, Count Zhubov, who is reputed to have been Catherine the Great's last lover, and several other interesting historical characters, was born in Salzburg, Austria, home to Mozart and the Von Trapp family. She grew up in Massachusetts and after spending her first two years of college in Austria, graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.A. in French and an M.A. in German.

Returning to Austria in 1970, Nina worked for sixteen years as a translator for Russian, French and Italian before turning to writing full-time. Her life-long interest in history and her fluency in several languages has been of great help in the in-depth research she does for her books, which includes traveling to where the stories are set.

Her hobbies include reading, haunting bookstores, painting watercolors, theater and music. Her newest hobby is gardening, even though her track record with houseplants leaves something to be desired.

Starting soon I will be teaching an 8 week on-line writing class. There will be extensive presentations on the weekly topics available at the beginning of the class and the participants will be submitting their writing to be critiqued. The text and critiques will be e-mailed to all participants so that everyone can profit. For more information and a detailed syllabus check out the web site at http://dallastexas.net/writing/

Luca Zeani had the face of a fallen angel.  It was a face Chiara had never forgotten, for it belonged to the man who had ruined her sister - the man she had vowed to destroy.  But though she burned with vengeance, Luca's passionate kisses ignited a hotter flame that made her his captive in body and soul.  Could the whisperings of her wayward heart lead her to the light of truth, or was she forever destined to love a man of darkness?

Dear Readers:

It's been a little over a year since my last book, Surrender The Heart, was released and I'd like to thank all of you who helped make it a success.

My new book, The Shadowed Heart, which will be out in July '98, is set in Venice during the time of Casanova and it has my very favorite kind of hero.

Luca is a warrior in a society gone soft and decadent. He is a macho man who enjoys all women and loves none of them. But suddenly he is confronted by a women whom he desires to the point of obsession. And when desire turns to deep, abiding love, no one is more surprised than he.

Chiara is half-Gypsy and she has come to Venice on a mission--revenge on the father who abandoned her mother to die in the streets. She learns that her father, too, has died, but destiny puts another kind of vengeance within her grasp--vengeance on the man, who she believes violated her sister.

But Chiara, who earns her way with her clairvoyance, finds herself bewildered. She has always been able to rely on her visions. But now when she looks at Luca and sees the man who made an empty-eyed creature of her sister, her visions tell her that this is not a man of darkness, but a man of light. She begins to believe that she has lost her gift of sight. Or perhaps she is going mad. Or maybe Luca has bewitched her with his powers.

She is stunned and appalled by the attraction she feels for this man, just as she is horrified by the vision that she will one day be his willing lover. But even as she fights the attraction, she finds it turning into a love that binds her to this man both heart and soul.

This was a fascinating book to write. Venice is one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in the world (as anyone who has seen the movies DANGEROUS BEAUTY and WINGS OF THE DOVE will know) and in the 18th century it was where Europe came to party. But it was the characters who, as always, made it special for me.

Here are two strong people with goals that are diametically opposed to one another. Chiara knows that if Luca wins, she will lose and vice-versa. Finding a way for their goals to merge into one was a challenge and a pleasure.

Currently I'm working on my first medieval romance, as well as a contemporary that focuses on a romance between an older woman and a younger man.

I'd like to leave you with an excerpt (slightly abridged) from The Shadowed Heart that will give you a taste of this very sensual story.

Happy Reading !
