Now back to the previous story. George and Harold, are not exactly poster boys for angelic behavior. But while these two fourth-graders love a good joke, their favorite pastime is writing and illustrating their own comic book on the adventures of Captain Underpants. The real trouble...er, adventure begins when the boys' hijinks are caught on tape! Of course, George and Harold figure the best way out of trouble is to buy a 3-D Hypno-Ring and hypnotize Principal Krupp. Truth becomes stranger than fiction, though just as funny when Mr. Krupp turns into a real Captain Underpants! Now the boys have to stay out of trouble by keeping Mr. Krupp, alias Captain Underpants out of harms way!

These books are best suited for the 6-10 age group. The first and second graders seem to devour them. I'll admit that I didn't understand what the attraction could be - the covers feature an egg-shaped guy running around in his underwear and the titles left you wondering, with furrowed brow, "what were they thinkingwhen they wrote and published this stuff?" But the kids were reading them, so I picked one up for my 8-year-old. We both chuckled and laughed our way through it, and the other titles in the series. The story itself is broken up with the comic book format that George and Harold write (be warned: the bits that George and Harold write are filled with the types of spelling errors that kids might make), and also a few pages of Flip-O-Rama animation pages so kids can simulate the action of the cartoon. This unique format holds the young readers interest from page to page and may even stir the imagination of some to illustrate their own stories! Parents: don't take these books too seriously - they are just a fun way for kids to keep reading, have a few laughs and stir the imagination!
