In the first book of this best-selling series, we are introduced to the worlds of Harry Potter. We get to see the world we are all familiar with, the one where we all have jobs, live in the suburbs perhaps, go to school; and where children are either spoiled rotten, mistreated in one way or another, wonder what's for dinner, or dream about what life would be like - if....
Then we get to experience the 'if' - the world into which Harry also belongs. The world we can believe is there, yet is kept secret from most; the world where magic is possible, where you can fly through the air, heal wounds more easily and do your chores in record time!
As you may have already heard, Harry is an eleven-year-old boy who lives
with his resentful aunt, uncle and cousin since the death of his parents
when he was a baby. Harry thinks they don't like him because he
was forced on them, but actually it is because they know that Harry's
parents were 'different' and they fear he will be the same. Harry's
mom was a witch and his dad a wizard. They were kind, loving people,
as
is Harry even though he is treated so horribly by his family.
So, it's with a happy heart that the reader can cheer for Harry when this magical world to which Harry is entitled comes calling to announce that he is old enough to begin his magical training at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is welcomed warmly by the magical community and soon learns the truth about his parents' death and the part he had in fighting the evil wizard responsible for their deaths. Readers will share in the experiences as Harry learns to adapt to his new life, make new friends and understand his new abilities and the responsibility that goes with them. But just as Harry is settling in to his new school, he and his friends discover that someone is trying to steal the powerful Sorcerer's Stone which is being guarded inside of Hogwarts. Could the evil wizard, Voldemort be back? And will Harry be able to defeat him again?
A special collector's edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is available for a limited time. It is a handsome leather bound gift volume that includes the complete text of the original novel as well as a unique pen-and-ink sketch, by the author, of Harry at No. 4 Privet Drive. The original art work by Mary GrandPré with gold accents on the cover and gilded pages make this edition one that will be treasured in any library for generations to come. It is Harry's second year at the Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and he is glad to be back with his friends. Escaping the dreary existence of life with his aunt and uncle over the summer, Harry is eager for the year to start. But this second year will be just as adventurous as the first, especially when some of the students start turning to stone and, while Harry and his friends are trying to find out who is behind the deed, some of the other students are wondering if it is Harry who is casting the spells.
We are also introduced to a new professor who fancies himself a celebrity, a sad ghost who haunts the girls bathroom, and an impish little house-elf named Dobby; and we get to know Ron's younger sister Ginny as well as a bit more about Hagrid's past. Oh, and did I mention that Harry is a Parselmouth? This comes in handy when the Chamber of Secrets is opened and Harry and his friends must find out why, and how.

Harry Potter and his friends are off for a third year at Hogwarts. This year they are in for a treat when their friend Hagrid takes over as teacher for the Care of Magical Creatures, and a new, very interesting professor Lupin in charge of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. But aside from regular studies, Harry also learns more about his parents, their deaths and what life was like when the evil wizard Voldemort had the wizarding world living in fear. And that's not all - when an old friend of Harry's parents, wrongly accused of murder, escapes from the infamous Azkaban prison, it is believed he is going after Harry. Harry cannot leave the school grounds and his must, unfortunately, live with the constant presence of dementors, prison guards on the lookout for the escapee, Sirius Black.
Oh, and what's with Scabbers this year, and Hermione's new pet cat, Crookshanks? That's a whole other story, and only Sirius Black can provide the answers.

This fourth book in the series, the fourth year for Harry and his friends at Hogwarts, is considerably longer than any so far, but every page is filled with adventure just like the first three. Harry faces even more challenges this year, many he will have to face on his own.
Harry is thrilled to attend the Quidditch World Cup with the Weasley family. The exciting time is hindered, however, by the appearance of the Dark Mark, the sign of the evil wizard, Voldemort. Then it's off to school where Dumbledore, the headmaster announces the Triwizard Tournament which will be hosted by Hogwarts. The tournament will bring together Hogwarts as well as two other witchcraft and wizardry schools from other parts of the world. Each will have a champion to compete in three challenges throughout the school year. Because Harry is two young to be entered into the competition, it is a surprise to everyone when the revered Goblet of Fire produces his name as one of the contestants. In true hero fashion, Harry reluctantly accepts his responsibility and triumphs over his fears and inexperience. However, Voldemort and some of his followers still lurk in the shadows, just waiting for the right time to force Harry into a showdown.

There is a door at the end of a silent corridor. And it's haunting Harry Potter's dreams. Why else would he be waking in the middle of the night, screaming in terror?
Harry has a lot on his mind for this, his fifth year at Hogwarts: a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher with a personaility like poisoned honey; a big surprise on the Gryffindor Quidditch team; and the looming terror of the Ordinary Wizarding Level exams. But all these things pale next to the growing threat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named — a threat that neither the magical government not the authorities at Hogwarts can stop.
As the grasp of darkness tightens, Harry must discover the true depth and strength of his friends, the importance of boundless loyalty, and the shocking price of unbearable sacrifice.
His fate depends on them all.

ATTENTION!!! Amazon Screening Room says: "In late 2006 and early 2007, the Harry Potter DVDs will be going on moratorium. This means that Warner, like Disney often does, won't be producing any more new copies of these movies. You'll still be able to buy them from Amazon as long as we have copies in stock, so be sure to get yours before they're gone."
Fans of the Harry Potter books will be delighted with the newest additions to the family. Author J.K.Rowling has brought to life two of the text books that were required reading for first year students at Hogwarts. The two titles, Quidditch Through the Ages, by Kennilworthy Whisp, and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander are as delightful, enchanting and imaginative as the Harry Potter books themselves. Obviously those who have read the Potter books will get even more chuckles from the pages than those who have not read the stories, but don't let that stop you from enjoying these fanciful booklets.
Each book sells for $3.99 and, thanks to the generosity of the author, publisher (Scholastic), and others involved in its production, $3 goes directly to Comic Relief. Comic Relief (U.K.) is a successful charity organization dedicated to making a meaningful difference in people's lives. Since
it began in 1985, Comic Relief has raised over $250 million dollars for
charity. The Harry's Books fund will raise money for the
poorest children in the poorest countries in the world, focusing on causes
such as anti-slavery, education (just .50 can educate a child for a week),
re-uniting parents and children separated by war, children orphaned or
disabled by war and teaching youngsters about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
Comic
Relief (U.K.) is an organization where the costs of administration are
provided by sponsors. This enables the group to send 100% of all
the money received from the sale of these books directly to the projects
working with the needy children.
Based on the outstanding popularity of the Harry Potter books, it is hoped that these two publications will raise an estimated $35 million dollars for needy children all over the world. So even if you're not a Harry Potter fan, pick up a copy of these titles and donate them to the local library or give them as a gift. Know that it is one small purchase that could literally save a child's life.

The Only Authorized
Biography of author J.K.RowlingBased on interview questions to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling from sources such as Newsweek, O, The Oprah Magazine and Entertainment Weekly, Conversations With J.K. Rowling is currently the only book on the author's life that is approved by Ms. Rowling. The author talks about her early life, friends and family; her inspiration for Harry Potter and how the idea for the character came about; how she feels about her books and characters; and how her readers, and the fame her books have brought her, have touched her life. Potter fans, and those just wondering what all the hoopla is about are sure to enjoy this informative, yet lighthearted read.

If you are a tremendous fan of all things HP, then you may find this book enjoyable. It consists of letters written to, and about, Harry and his creator, J.K.Rowling, Though it is very flattering to Ms. Rowling, and it is done by fans of the book, most of the information on J.K. Rowling can certainly be found elsewhere so you probably won't learn anything new here, but the letters are quite funny and enjoyable to peruse through. Personally, I'd like to see a book by Scholastic publishers with some 'real' HP letters to Harry and his creator.

In an effort to appease kids, and keep them reading as they wait for the next Harry Potter title to come out, many bookstores and publications have made lists of books that might be just the thing for these fantasy/adventure seeking readers. However, many lists are the same and fail to mention the recommended age level of these titles and, in some cases, don't make it clear that they are in no way similar to the style and content of HP titles.
