Michael is an experienced construction disputes specialist who advises at all levels of the contractual chain. He has worked across all sectors of construction, engineering and infrastructure, including rail, process plant, energy, coastal and residential projects.

In addition to his legal qualifications, Michael holds a Masters in Chemistry from Warwick University, which provides him with a unique advantage in dealing with highly technical claims.

Michael also sits as an adjudicator for a number of panels.  He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the Technology and Construction Solicitors Association and an affiliate member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.  Michael also is the regional co-ordinator for Birmingham for the Society of Construction Law.

  • Advising an airport in relation to a dispute with Network Rail relating to a new overbridge.
  • Advising a management contractor in three adjudications against its piping sub-contractor relating to an antibiotic production facility (amended IChemE).
  • Advising a sub-contractor on a £20 million claim against the main contractor over a new breakwater in Aberdeen south Harbour (NEC3).

  • Acting for a major national house builder in several adjudications (all amended JCT) related to (i) defective works by a contractor, (ii) extension of time claims from a contractor and (iii) final and interim account valuations.
  • Advising a major national contractor in a multi-million pound dispute over a new 1,200 bed student accommodation block in Leicester (amended JCT)
