Interview with Partner Mathew Harvey

What’s your favourite deal that you’ve worked on?

It is always great to work on wide-reaching transactions when there is a real local interest and impact. My favourite example is when we acted for TOCA Football, helping them with their joint venture with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield in a deal that will see the launch of multiple TOCA Social venues in Westfield shopping centres throughout Europe. This was at the same time that TOCA Social, the world’s first immersive football and dining experience venue, was opening in the Bullring Shopping Centre in Birmingham.

What does TLT offer to the corporate landscape in Birmingham that other firms don’t?

We are a truly national firm, working across our sectors and legal disciplines to bring together our diverse expertise to help our clients keep ahead of the challenges that they face. However, each of our offices is committed to its own locality and we bring the energy, ambition and innovative vision to the communities in which we work to get the right outcome for our clients. This is a balance that we are very proud of, and which resonates with the high calibre colleagues that we have been able to attract and will continue to attract as the Birmingham office grows.

How do you see the corporate team growing over the next year? 

We have already grown a corporate team in the Birmingham office with considerable experience and skill. This means that we have the strength in depth to be able to undertake most transactions that you will see in the Midlands market. Over the next 12 months, we aim to add further to this at all levels of the team, including at partner and more junior levels, to confirm our commitment to the Midlands.

What’s your favourite thing about Birmingham? 

That’s easy, it’s the people. As a new entrant into the Midlands, we have attracted brilliant colleagues and we all enjoy working in a thriving and collaborative local professional and business community and acting for fantastic clients. The common denominator in all of this is the character and supportive nature of the individuals within our firm, the office, the broader community and our clients.
