A Master Development Agreement was signed between the ambitious real estate partner and Birmingham City Council, allowing the development to move into its next phase.
As part of the regeneration at least 70% of the existing homes on the estate will be refurbished or reprovided, significant new homes will be built and at least 20% of these will be affordable homes. There will be new community facilities; better transport links and delivering jobs and apprenticeships; transforming the area into the largest new urban community area in the city centre.
TLT advised on every stage of the procurement process, ensuring the project’s legal framework was robust and comprehensive. The team was led by David Meecham, Partner in TLT’s Housing and Regeneration team, supported by Shazia Bashir, Housing and Regeneration Partner and Kuldip Dhanoya, Partner and Head of Public Procurement. St Joseph’s was represented by Gerald Kelly at DAC Beachcroft throughout.
David Meecham, partner at TLT commented: “This project highlights the critical importance of new housing developments in urban regeneration. The Ladywood Regeneration project is set to deliver much-needed new homes (of all tenures) in the UK’s second largest city.
“It has been a pleasure to support Birmingham City Council on securing the agreement with St Joseph, helping the local authority unlock future growth opportunities for this thriving city.”
Cllr Sharon Thompson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills and Deputy Mayor of West Midlands, said:
“We would like to thank TLT for their support on procuring a joint delivery partner, that will help us to deliver a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the regeneration of the Ladywood Estate.
"The investment being made will bring vital new homes to the city, improve existing homes, as well as transforming Ladywood into a more sustainable estate, with better facilities, better transport links, walking routes, and green spaces.”
