Wates Construction Limited is one of the leading privately-owned construction, residential development, and property services businesses in the UK.
Led by housing and regeneration partner David Meecham, TLT advised Brent Council on the procurement of Wates as hybrid developer and contractor for the two sites: Cecil Avenue and Ujima House.
Cecil Avenue will feature 250 homes, as well as commercial and community spaces. Ujima House will have 54 new affordable homes, new workspace units and a café. Designated and partly funded by the Mayor of London, the Wembley Housing Zone aims to create new homes and jobs, new leisure, retail and workspaces, public realm improvements and increased accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists and road users.
Brent Council was also supported by its commercial advisers, Deloitte, led by director Alex Morton.
David, who specialises in large scale residential schemes for the public sector, said: “With the procurement process and exchange required to be completed quickly to maintain Greater London Authority funding, the team worked to particularly challenging timelines to preserve this extremely worthwhile development’s delivery. With the provision of affordable housing and the development of new communities more important than ever, we’re delighted to have supported Brent Council in the successful completion of the deal.”
Jonathan Kay, head of regeneration at Brent Council said: “This exchange is a significant milestone for the Council in completing the Wembley Housing Zone project, ensuring the revitalisation and regeneration of this up-and-coming neighbourhood. TLT’s efficient work, advice and knowledge of public sector promoted residential development schemes was invaluable in securing the agreement in time.”
Alex Morton, who led the Deloitte team alongside TLT said: “The appointment of Wates represents another major milestone for Brent Council in both facilitating the revitalisation of the Wembley High Road area and its wider commitment to delivering high quality new homes across the borough. It has been a pleasure to work again with both the Council team and David Meecham in running this procurement process, which despite a challenging economic backdrop, we successfully completed in under 12 months.”
