Ecotricity, the UK's greenest energy company, has been granted planning consent for its Heckington Fen Energy Park – a 500MW solar farm with battery storage in Lincolnshire.
National law firm TLT has advised Ecotricity on the real estate aspects of its Development Consent Order (DCO). The firm has also been supporting Ecotricity for over five years with the land assembly aspects of this landmark project.
Located in the heart of Lincolnshire, the site will house an impressive 500MW of solar capacity along with a corresponding 400MW of energy storage. The site will have the capacity of powering over 100,000 homes. This development marks a further step towards the delivery of the UK government targets for scaling up renewable energy generation in the drive to net-zero.
TLT’s expertise in the future energy sector was critical to navigating the real estate aspects of the project, involving the main site landowners and a number of other landowners with interests in the arrangements. TLT will also be supporting Ecotricity as the project moves towards construction.
The team was led by real estate future energy partner, Matt Grimwood, supported by managing associate Shaun Moody and trainee solicitor Kim Tomlins.
Law firm Osborne Clarke also advised Ecotricity on the DCO consent aspects with a team led by energy and infrastructure partner Neil Bromwich.
Matthew Grimwood, partner at TLT said: “The consent marks a landmark in the 19-year relationship between TLT and Ecotricity, which dates to 2006 and covers a range of technologies including solar, wind, anaerobic digestion and, previously, the Electric Highway. We worked hand-in-hand with Ecotricity to complete this milestone DCO, which will offer huge potential in helping unlock the UK’s renewable energy potential.
“The project and collaboration also exemplify TLT’s commitment to supporting the energy transition. As a key player in the renewable energy sector, the real estate team has demonstrated its extensive skills and knowledge in the pursuit of a sustainable and greener future.”
