National law firm TLT has advised Hoodrich Limited on its sale to Iconix International, supporting the international expansion of the British streetwear brand.

Jay Williams founded the brand in Birmingham in 2014 with just £200 and is now sold in more than 700 stores, including JD Sports. Iconix is a high-profile US buyer that owns iconic fashion brands such as Umbro.

TLT advised the Hoodrich shareholders, on all aspects of the sale of their shares in Hoodrich, with Jay Williams retaining a minority stake and continuing to play a key part in the brand’s growth. The team was led by corporate partner Rick Life, supported by Nicola Bilner, Kirsty Wilson and James Pike from the corporate team, and William Ngan from the tax team and Mike Legge from the employment team.

Jay Williams said: “It’s been an exciting time for the team at Hoodrich. We’re very grateful to the team at TLT for their support in helping us get the transaction over the line and for being a vital source of knowledge and support throughout this journey.”

Rick Life, corporate partner at TLT commented: “Despite a challenging economy, the Hoodrich brand has continued to expand nationally and internationally. With its international expansion and product range being developed, Hoodrich demonstrates that regardless of market conditions, good assets and strong brands will sell. It was a pleasure to work with the team and to achieve this successful outcome for them just ahead of prime retail time between Black Friday and Christmas.”
