TLT has successfully provided value-driven legal advice to the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) to modernise and facilitate its capability for detecting fraud in the UK market. As a result, the IFB’s membership will become more inclusive and agile which will support the insurance industry’s collective fight against insurance fraud.
One of the key aspects of the project is enhancing IFB's ability to detect and prevent insurance fraud through opening up its membership and removing historic barriers to data sharing across the insurance sector. IFB will be enhancing its fraud intelligence by attracting new data sets and organisations, to increase its profile as an industry leading organisation in this sector.
TLT's expertise in corporate and data protection law ensured that the legal framework supporting these innovations was robust and compliant with current regulations. The collaboration between TLT and IFB was aimed at putting in place a new high standard for fraud detection mechanisms in the insurance sector which can be applied industry wide with a dynamic levy mechanism for future preparedness of organisations such as IFB who are championing market intelligence.
The deal was led by Elizabeth Delaney and Mumuksha Singh in the Corporate team, along with Emma Erskine-Fox and Lisa Chivers in the Data Protection team. This long-term project, initiated in August 2024, has reached a successful outcome, with negotiations involving all major insurance players.
Elizabeth Delaney, Corporate Partner at TLT said: "We are delighted to have assisted IFB on this project. The combined efforts of both teams helped streamline processes and significantly enhance fraud detection capabilities across the UK market. The collaboration was highly rewarding, made easier by the lovely IFB team and their superb professionalism, along with the seamless teamwork of our all-women-led lawyer team."
Ursula Jallow, Directorat the IFB said: “TLT’s support on this high-profile and important strategic project for the IFB was invaluable. The successful collaboration between the IFB, the wider market and TLT demonstrated TLT’s ability to navigate complex legal landscapes in a pragmatic way, and deliver modern and creative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the insurance market.”
