  • TLT advises Sovereign Network Group on purchase of affordable homes for major regeneration project

National law firm TLT has advised SNG (Sovereign Network Group) on its purchase of a number of affordable homes in Brent Cross Town, as part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration project.

SNG was formed in October 2023 through the merger of Sovereign and Network Homes. The housing association invests in communities across the South of England, including London, providing over 84,000 homes and aims to boost the number of new affordable homes every year.

Brent Cross Town is a new mixed-use town which is being delivered by a joint-venture between Barnet Council and Related Argent - the biggest regeneration and growth programme ever undertaken by Barnet Council.

Brent Cross Town will create a new hub of activity for north London and when completed, will include 6,700 homes and offices with workspace for 25,000 people, creating 20,000 new jobs as well as reproviding three existing schools and adding new community and public health facilities, parks and improved public spaces.

TLT’s housing and regeneration team advised SNG on all aspects of the transaction. The team was led by housing and regeneration partner Shazia Bashir with support from senior associate Rebecca Thibault and associate Tillie Clark. The deal also required cross-practice support from the firm’s projects, infrastructure and construction (PIC); planning; and tax teams.

Matt Bird, SNG’s regional managing director for London and East Region, commented: “Our purpose is to provide good, affordable homes so we’re delighted to be partnering with Related Argent and Barnet Council to deliver these apartments for social rent.

“This was not the easiest of transactions, but with TLT’s expertise, experience and excellent client service, we knew we were in safe hands. We’d like to thank Shazia and the team for their hard work throughout this process.”

Partner Shazia Bashir added: “The complex work TLT delivered for SNG as part of this significant project demonstrates the expertise of our London team, working collaboratively across multiple service lines, in successfully delivering on high value, high profile projects.

“The support from our colleagues has helped cement our reputation in the London affordable housing sector. This is reflected in our recent successes in the legal directories including for the team where we have moved up a tier in Legal 500 2025.”
