National law firm TLT has been shortlisted for the competitive Team of the Year: Energy Transition award at The Lawyer Awards 2025, cementing the firm’s position as a leading adviser to the future energy sector.

The Lawyer Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding work of lawyers, law firms and in-house lawyers.

TLT was singled out in this category for advising renewable energy and sustainable agriculture developer AGR Renewables on its virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with Manchester City Council – one of the first local authorities in the UK to embrace a vPPA for renewable energy.

The first-of-its kind transaction will help the council save 20,000 tonnes of carbon emissions and allow for the construction of a new solar farm with a nameplate capacity of 77.4MW coupled with a 50MW/100MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The project, led by partner Michael Kruger in TLT’s future energy team, marked a major milestone in Manchester’s journey to net-zero and will also play a significant role in aiding the UK’s energy transition by contributing to a significant supply of ‘green’ energy, reducing emissions and helping mitigate climate change.

TLT’s understanding of the energy sector and the structured finance elements were crucial in navigating the complexities of the transaction and providing practical guidance to AGR throughout the project.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony taking place in London on 17th June at the Grosvenor House Hotel. For more information visit: The Lawyer Awards - The Lawyer | Legal insight, benchmarking data and jobs
