The awards celebrate the best in innovation in law firms and in-house legal teams in Europe. They also recognise innovation in a wide variety of areas such as sustainability, diversity and digital transformation.
This year, TLT has been shortlisted for the people management award in recognition of TLT World – a new long-term shift to flexible working, which empowers employees to choose to work at a time and a place that suits them, their clients and their role. The new approach aims to enable a culture that is inclusive of all different working styles by recognising that no ones personal and professional lives are the same. TLT World has, in part, contributed to impressive results in terms of tightening pay gaps and increasing diversity in senior roles in the firm. In 2022, TLT reached 30% female partnership – an important milestone bringing the firm one step closer to achieving ambitions of 33% female partnership by 2025.
In addition, TLT has also been nominated for the sustainable business of law award for leading the industry in terms of progressive sustainability initiatives. Sustainability is a core part of TLT’s approach and forms part of the firm’s offering for clients and contacts so its activity can deliver advanced economic, environmental and social outcomes. In 2021, TLT launched a formal sustainability strategy, which included the establishment of a dedicated sustainability team, aimed at increasing internal engagement with emission cutting initiatives and further contributing to achieving its environmental goals. The recent public declaration of its Science Based Targets, one of the first law firms to do so, evidences continued commitment to this agenda.
Helen Hodgkinson, chief people officer at TLT said:
“Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at TLT. We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to help our clients meet their objectives, and we know achieving this starts with our own people. This is why it’s an honour to have been nominated in two categories in the FT Innovative Lawyers Europe 2022 awards. The shortlist is a recognition of our efforts to find innovative solutions, in the areas of people management and sustainability, which will contribute towards creating an environment where our people and clients can succeed. Our fully flexible approach to working and our new sustainability strategy have placed us amongst the most progressive law firms in the country – we’re proud that these initiatives are being recognised on a national and international platform.”
Maria Connolly, head of clean energy and real estate, and executive board member responsible for sustainability at TLT commented:
“2021 and 2022 have been pivotal years for TLT and the firm’s sustainability initiatives. Sustainability is a core component of TLT’s vision and myself, our senior sustainability manager and our sustainability strategy group have been working hard to ensure we have a clear roadmap in place to achieve net zero and are meeting ambitious targets.. Amongst other achievements, the last twelve months have seen us set targets to be carbon neutral by 2025 and we have had our commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040 verified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking a monumental step forward in our comprehensive decarbonisation strategy.
“We’re incredibly proud to have been nominated for this award – a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our sustainability team to ensure that we champion sustainable business and place sustainability at the heart of everything we do. We’re delighted to have been recognised amongst other European organisations who are leading in this field.”
