Zaqia Rashid, head of TLT’s public inquiries and public law team, has been nominated for the Legal Leader of the Year Award at the Women, Influence & Power in Law (WIPL) UK Awards 2024.

The WIPL UK Awards honour top female lawyers who have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession in the past year – whether in shaping the law or achieving outstanding results for clients.

Zaqia was singled out in this category for her extraordinary achievements in transforming TLT’s public inquiries and public law team into a dominant force that is playing a pivotal role in major inquiries in the UK. Zaqia was also nominated for her leadership approach, focused on championing ED&I and ensuring a culture where people feel able to bring their whole selves to work.

Zaqia joined TLT in November 2021 to head up TLT’s new public inquiries and public law team. Since joining the firm, she has built the team into a dominant force to over 170 people. Amongst others, Zaqia and her team are providing legal assistance to Sir Wyn Williams in his inquiry into the Post Office scandal (which was the subject of the ITV drama Mr Bates v. the Post Office), providing support to witnesses on the infected blood inquiry, representing parties on the covid inquiry and finally she is the official solicitor to the undercover policing inquiry.

Zaqia commented: “It’s been an outstanding couple of years for TLT and the public inquiries and public law team, reflected in the growth we’ve seen in the team and the number of high-profile matters we are supporting on. I’m absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this award, which is reflective of the hard work and dedication TLT and our whole team invests into delivering outstanding results for our clients.”

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony taking place on 6 March 2024. For more information about the awards visit: WIPL.UK Awards 2024 (law.com).
