Will Aid is a collaboration between the legal profession and nine UK charities, taking place in November, aiming to raise funds for their charitable causes, while improving access to will writing services. Partner charities include the British Red Cross, NSPCC, Save the Children and Action Aid. Since its inception in 1988, over £24 million and many millions more in pledged legacies have been raised by Will Aid for its partner charities.
2023 is the first year TLT has partnered with Will Aid, with members of the trust and estates team volunteering their time and waiving will writing fees, in exchange for a suggested charitable donation.
Sarah Pitman, senior associate in the trust and estates team said: "As the cost-of-living crisis continues and people’s finances are squeezed, thinking about legal documents such as wills may not be a priority. However, recent research published by Will Aid revealed that 59% of UK adults do not have an up-to-date will, leaving their loved ones vulnerable to inheritance difficulties. This month has been a great opportunity to remind people in our community of the importance of having a professionally written will as well as contributing to Will Aid’s partner charities.”
