National law firm TLT has won the Private Client Team of the Year award at the British Legal Awards, recognising the firm’s exceptional contributions to a first-of-its-kind report aimed at tackling economic abuse.
The British Legal Awards, now in their 15th year and hosted by Law.com International, are the premier legal awards in the region, representing the best talent in the UK’s legal community.
TLT’s family team took away top prize in this category for their work supporting UK Finance with the launch of Project Safeguard – a project designed to understand the legal landscape surrounding economic abuse, which resulted in the publication of the From Control to Financial Freedom report.
Alongside the financial services disputes and investigations and financial services regulatory teams, the family team provided considerable pro bono support to UK Finance, enabling the association to craft and deliver latest industry guidance to its members via the report, which puts forward a series of ‘action points’ including new suggested policies, services and improvements to existing processes to combat economic abuse.
This victory caps a successful year for TLT’s family law team, which was also nominated for the Family Law Community Interaction Award at the Lexis Nexis Family Law Awards earlier this month.
Natalie Drew, partner in TLT’s family team commented: “The UK Finance report took 12 months of hard work from the family team, working closely with our colleagues in Financial Services Disputes and Investigations and Financial Services Regulatory. It is always highly rewarding to have our work recognised on a national platform, as it gives well-deserved recognition to our colleagues as well as demonstrating the strong positive impacts that our work is having in the wider world.
“We would also like to thank our partners at UK Finance for the opportunity to support them in producing such a groundbreaking report.”
