TLT has been nominated for two awards at The Lawyer Awards 2023 for sustainability initiative of the year and competition and regulatory team of the year, reflecting the firm’s exceptional commitments to net-zero and the remarkable work of the competition and antitrust team respectively in 2022/2023.

The Lawyer Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding work of lawyers, law firms and in-house lawyers.

TLT’s nomination for sustainability initiative of the year follows the firm’s 2022 commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040 (well ahead of the UK’s 2050 target), which was verified under the Science Based Targets initiative’s (SBTi) new Corporate Net-Zero Standard. This marks a monumental step in TLT’s comprehensive decarbonisation strategy, aligning the target with halting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, to avoid the most significant effects of climate breakdown (with many companies still only aiming for 2°C).

The competition and regulatory team of the year shortlisting reflects the team’s work - alongside Linklaters (our submission partner), Monckton chambers, Oxera economists and the in-house team - in the Competition Appeal Tribunal on behalf of the UK’s leading price comparison website, ComparetheMarket.comThis resulted in the successful appeal of an infringement decision and £17.9 million fine imposed by the CMA, as well as the defence of a multi-hundred million pound follow-on collective damages claim.

Maria Connolly, partner and executive board member who sponsors sustainability at TLT said: The Lawyer Awards are undoubtedly some of the most prestigious in the UK and we’re honoured to be shortlisted for our sustainability and net-zero pursuits, an important category to the firm, our communities and our clients.”

Miles Trower, competition partner at TLT said: We’re delighted to have been recognised in this categoryIt is testament to the hard work of our competition colleagues as well as those in FutureLaw and what is now MLSIt is entirely consistent with the general ambition and ability of the firm to undertake the most complex and high-profile matters successfully, as well as our commitment to work in seamless collaboration with other advisers, such as Linklaters, to produce the best outcome for our clients.”
