TLT has won the prestigious Lloyds Bank Sustainable Business of the Year Award at the edie Awards, recognising TLT’s ambitious sustainability strategy and industry-leading climate targets.

The coveted Lloyds Bank Sustainable Business of the Year Award celebrates the organisation taking its environmental, social and financial performance to new heights to achieve a more sustainable future.

TLT was crowned in this category in recognition of the firm’s dedication to creating impactful sustainability initiatives, which are being supported by a variety of firm-wide programmes, including having its net-zero target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

This industry-leading, firmwide roadmap had two key pillars: a commitment to achieving net-zero by reducing emissions (by a minimum of 90%) and to reaching net-zero by 2040. This latter goal is ten years ahead of the UK Government and Paris Climate Agreement target (which many companies are targeting). TLT was one of only three early adopters of the SBTi’s new sustainability gold standard in the legal sector (at time of validation) and one of only two industry players to have net-zero goals set to 1.5°C.

Last year, TLT received a ‘B’ score from CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project), an independent organisation widely recognised as the gold standard of corporate reporting. Many of our clients also disclose their climate change impact via this recognised platform. The average score for the specialised professional services sector is ‘C’, further demonstrating that we really are leading the way in our sustainability strategy and progress.

TLT’s sustainability success has been driven by partner and executive board member who sponsors sustainability at TLT, Maria Connolly. TLT's sustainability team, led by senior sustainability manager Agnes Altmets, has also significantly contributed to ensuring sustainability is a core element of TLT's strategy to 2025.

Sustainability forms a fundamental part of the firm’s offering to ensure the delivery of progressive economic, environmental and social outcomes for clients, colleagues and the wider community.

Maria Connolly said: “We’re delighted to have won one of the most sought-after sustainability awards. Being crowned the Sustainable Business of the Year at the edie awards is a testament to the success of our sustainability strategy, which is proving a gold standard for other businesses on their road to net-zero.

“As a major UK employer, we have a responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment. This award is a confirmation that we are leading the way for what comes next and helping to make a positive, lasting impact on the future.”

The edie Awards are the world’s largest sustainable business awards scheme, recognising excellence across the spectrum of green business, and have been running for 16 years.
