TLT has been shortlisted for law firm of the year and sustainable business of the year at the Bristol Law Society Awards 2022, while Maria Connolly, head of TLT’s national real estate practice and sector lead for future energy, has been shortlisted for lawyer of the year.

The prestigious Bristol Law Society (BLS) Awards recognise excellence in the legal profession in the Bristol area, and celebrate outstanding work carried out over the past year, both regionally in Bristol and the South West, as well as nationally and internationally.

TLT has been nominated for law firm of the year for the excellent standard of legal services delivered in the past year, demonstrated by a series of major client successes in high-profile and innovative areas, as well as the significant growth and development of the firm. In line with the firm’s strategic vision for 2025, the firm has welcomed over 400 new colleagues in the last twelve months, further broadening the firm’s offering and strengthening its sector-specific expertise. It has also successfully delivered a progressive workplace agenda through the launch of TLT World – the firm’s new fully flexible approach to working - as well as market-leading sustainability.

TLT was also recognised in the sustainable business of the year category for its ambitious, science-based targets, which this year were validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). The nomination also highlights the major initiatives implemented this year to deliver on the firm’s net zero goal, and to help facilitate sustainability change for clients and communities.

In addition, Maria Connolly has been shortlisted for the lawyer of the year award on the basis of her market-leading expertise in the future energy sector, and her outstanding work positioning TLT as a trailblazer in sustainability and a major advocate within the profession for action to achieve net zero.

John Wood, managing partner of TLT, commented: “The past twelve months have been pivotal in terms of growth and achievements for TLT. The firm emerged from the pandemic more energised, ambitious, and innovative than ever, and this has translated into major successes and value delivered to our clients, record growth for the firm, as well as innovative policy initiatives spearheaded from our Bristol headquarters.

“We are thrilled that the hard work of our team in Bristol and around the UK has been recognised in the firm’s shortlisting.”

Agnes Altmets, senior sustainability manager at TLT, said: “TLT boasts some of the most advanced and credible net zero target in the industry, recently validated by the SBTi. In the past year we have implemented truly transformative sustainability initiatives, cascaded down from our headquarters in Bristol; these go far beyond the usual business operations to encompass a holistic sustainability approach for ourselves and our clients.”

Maria Connolly, partner and head of real estate and future energy at TLT, commented: I could not be prouder of the work that my team, and the firm more generally, has accomplished over the past year, particularly in driving the sustainability agenda and facilitating our own and our clients’ transition to net zero. The UK’s sustainable energy market is witnessing intense evolution and innovation, and we are excited to be working with clients on some ground-breaking projects which sit at the apex of this transformation.”

The winners of the Bristol Law Society Awards will be announced at the BLS Annual Awards Dinner on 3 November 2022. Find out more about the ceremony, here.
