TLT has revealed another strong year of rankings in The Legal 500 UK 2025 Guide. TLT has secured 75 practice area rankings in total, including 12 top tier rankings and 80 individual rankings.  

TLT has gained a new Tier 1 ranking in Banking and Finance alongside having gained new rankings in Corporate Restructuring and Insolvency; and Securitisation, reflecting the firm’s leading reputation in these practice areas. In the last twelve months, the firm has strengthened the breadth and depth across its key sectors having recruited a number of new partners including banking lawyers Roy Grist and Euan Cluness; financial service regulatory expert Amanda Hulme; and project finance specialists Victoria Quek and Michael Kruger.

Contributing to its Tier 1 ranking, the firm’s banking team has been involved in some of the most cutting-edge deals in the market including acting for WH Smith PLC in respect of its new £400m sustainability linked and multicurrency revolving credit loan facility, and acting for Tag Energy on its £50m funding from a syndicate of three lenders (Santander, Rabobank and Triple Point) on their construction and operational financing of a 99.9MW battery storage facility. 

TLT has also gained Tier 1 rankings in 11 other practice areas, demonstrating its leading reputation in Banking Litigation; Corporate and Commercial; Employment; Energy; Competition and EU law; Health and Safety; Insolvency and Corporate recovery; IT and Telecoms; Licensing; Pensions.

The firm also grew its rankings in the eight submission areas of Administrative and Public law; Commercial Litigation; Emerging Markets; Energy; Insolvency and Corporate Recovery; IT and Telecoms; Local Government and Social Housing. 

Overall, TLT’s recognitions within The Legal 500 UK 2025 Guide are:

  • Rankings for individuals increased overall, with 80 lawyers ranked in total. 
  • Eight lawyers recognised in the Hall of Fame including Alastair Lomax (Insolvency and Corporate Recovery); and Maria Connolly (Energy), who achieved this accolade for the first time. 
  • 39 lawyers were recognised in the Leading Partner category including new entries Dan Read (IT and Telecoms), Gary Roscoe (Banking and Finance), Julien Luke (Commercial Litigation) and Kevin Murphy (Commercial Property). 
  • 17 lawyers were named Next Generation Partner, including Debbie Gale (Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate), Victoria Mabbett (Commercial Litigation) and Zaqia Rashid (Administrative and Public Law) who were ranked for the first time. 
  • 16 lawyers were named a Leading Associate with Piers Warne (Licensing) joining the list for the first time.

The results follow another strong year of growth for TLT with revenue up 12% year-on-year up to £174m for 2023 / 2024. The announcements follow the firm’s opening of a new office in Birmingham, aimed at building scale in its specialist sectors including future energy; digital; financial services’ leisure, food & drink’ government and public services; real estate; and retail & consumer goods. 

Legal 500 UK is an annual guide to the UK legal sector and used by buyers of legal services. It ranks law firms and lawyers across legal specialisms and geographic regions, identifying the most highly respected legal professionals in their areas of expertise.
