Artificial Intelligence

Businesses across all sectors are seeking to embrace and harness AI's disruptive potential, whether that is to augment and streamline existing processes, or to build new products which leverage powerful AI models.

Implementing, developing and managing AI within your business in a safe and compliant way involves navigating an increasingly complex landscape which touches on numerous legal areas.

Our AI practice brings together experts from all legal disciplines enabling us to provide a cross-practice and cross-sector holistic approach.

Five principles. One smarter approach.

Our legal experts share TLT’s approach to responsible innovation in this short-form video series, each focused on one of our five guiding principles.

1. Govern the use of intelligent systems across your organisation

2. Assess risks and opportunities across new and existing use cases

3. Comply with fast-changing laws and regulations

4. Transact with technology providers and deliver solutions to customers

5. Protect your investments, assets and outputs

Experience

Govern

Working with a major global airline to implement its AI governance framework, including drafting AI policy documentation, preparing an AI inventory to allow the client to map and audit its uses of AI, preparing a variety of vendor management documentation, advising on AI literacy obligations and advising on requirements for customer-facing documentation.

Assess

Providing AI specialist support to a software provider in relation to AI governance and vendor management including a review of T&Cs and supporting material connected to the deployment of an AI solution which would act as an intermediary between 10 other large language models (i.e. Open AI, Salesforce, Meta LLMs).

Comply

Advising a public body on risks relating to the use of a generative AI chatbot on its website and steps to take to ensure compliance with various laws and regulations, with a particular focus on risks presented by potential hallucinations, the client’s liability for actions taken by users based on those hallucinations, and how the client could mitigate the risks to itself and to users as a result of these.

Transact

Assisting a Tier1 TMO with the preparation of draft clauses in a short-form and long-form format to be used as templates in supply chain contracts to address the use of AI by its suppliers, along with an accompanying “AI playbook” to be used in negotiations.

Protect

Advising a regulatory body on intellectual property implications of its members using AI (in particular generative AI) in connection with documentation and guidance provided by the regulatory body. We advised the client on whether such use was permitted within existing terms and conditions, the risks of allowing such use to take place, and steps the client could take to mitigate those risks.
