Comply

What’s involved?
The use of AI is regulated by an increasingly complex combination of:
- Existing laws and regulations;
- AI-specific laws; and
- Guidance from regulators, such as the ICO and FCA.
Once your AI use cases (existing and proposed) are established, a crucial next step will be analysing and determining if and to what extent these will be caught by regulations and what your compliance obligations are, for example under the EU AI Act.
Does your AI system fall within the territorial scope of the EU AI Act? Check out our flow chart to see.
How TLT can help
- AI regulatory analysis: establishing, based on your AI use cases, what your regulatory obligations will be.
- EU AI Act Risk Assessments: assisting you with analysing the impact of the EU AI Act for your organisation, including: (a) whether the use of an AI tool falls within the scope of the Act; and (b) advising on, and implementing, measures to ensure compliance with your obligations under the Act in respect of that tool.
- Regulatory compliance plans: advising you on the steps required to ensure regulatory compliance and providing practical guidance on how to achieve this.
Experience
- Advising a public body on risks relating to the use of a generative AI chatbot on its website and steps to take to ensure compliance with various laws and regulations, with a particular focus on risks presented by potential hallucinations, the client’s liability for actions taken by users based on those hallucinations, and how the client could mitigate the risks to itself and to users as a result of these.
- Advising a global software provider on implementation of the EU AI Act across its EU operations. To date, including a questionnaire to audit the business to establish the extent to which any “unacceptable risk” AI systems might be used, drafting organisation-wide AI policy documentation, advising on the extent to which proposed generative AI use cases are caught by the Act, and advising on the client’s role as deployer and/or provider of AI systems.
