TLT commended for complex family law case

UK national law firm TLT has successfully represented the Applicant Husband at a final hearing for financial remedy in the case of H v W [2024] EWFC 480 (B).

The case concerned an elderly husband and wife and raised a number of complex issues, including the length of the relationship, the distinction between matrimonial and non-matrimonial assets, and allegations relating to the parties’ conduct. Careful case management was required to support the participation of a vulnerable client, ensuring meaningful engagement throughout the litigation process.

The court ordered the sale of the main properties, with a lump sum to Husband. As a result of strategic case presentation, the court also made a costs order against the Wife, uncommon in financial remedy proceedings.

TLT's support of the Applicant was commended by (then) District Judge Ireland, now HHJ Ireland.

Abigail Whelan, Senior Associate in TLT's Family team and case lead, said: "This case exemplifies TLT’s values and approach to complex cases, combining technical excellence with values-led client care.

“Throughout the process, it was important to me that our client felt supported and able to participate fully in the process. By taking a tailored, empathetic approach, we were able to present the case effectively and achieve a positive outcome in challenging circumstances.”
