TLT enhances employment offering with new Partner hire

UK national law firm TLT has expanded its employment practice with the appointment of Partner Scott Milligan in Glasgow.

Scott joins TLT from Harper Macleod, where he oversaw a period of significant growth for the employment team. He brings almost 20 years’ experience advising clients in both the public and private sector on a range of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues across Scotland, England and Wales. He is also an Accredited Specialist in Employment Law by Law Society of Scotland.

He has extensive experience of providing strategic Board level advice, including to Scottish Government agencies and national PLCs, on restructuring, executive exits and disputes, and complex whistleblowing, disciplinary and grievance processes. Scott also regularly provides employment focused support in corporate and property transactions on key issues such as diligence contractual, negotiation and TUPE. Specific TUPE experience extends to advising on large scale cross-border service provision changes and a period in-house within the HR team of a multi-national employer advising on large scale TUPE and collective redundancy consultation processes. He regularly represents respondents in Employment Tribunals throughout Scotland, England and Wales in the defence of claims involving unfair dismissal, disability discrimination and breach of contract.

Commenting on his arrival, Scott said: “I’m delighted to be joining TLT at such an exciting time for the firm’s growth, particularly in Scotland. The strength and ambition of the forward-thinking employment team, alongside TLT’s collaborative, national platform, creates a compelling opportunity to build on my experience and further develop a high-quality offering for clients.

“Throughout my career, I’ve enjoyed working closely with businesses across the public, private and third sectors on complex and strategic employment matters, and I’m looking forward to bringing that experience to TLT’s clients. I’m particularly excited about supporting the continued growth of the practice in Scotland, strengthening client relationships and mentoring the next generation of lawyers, while contributing to the wider success of the firm.”

Stuart McBride, Employment Partner at TLT added: “With major employment reforms looming with the roll-out of the Employment Rights Act, Scott’s depth of experience advising on both contentious and non-contentious strategic matters will be invaluable to our clients as they look to understand and prepare for these changes.

“Scott’s proven track record in building and growing a high-performing team, alongside his strong client relationships across Scotland, makes him an excellent addition to our practice. His appointment further strengthens our ability to support clients with clear, commercial and pragmatic advice during a period of significant reform.”
