TLT scoops further success in Scottish Legal 500 rankings

National law firm TLT has been ranked in 10 categories across its Edinburgh and Glasgow offices in the Legal 500 UK rankings 2026 – an independent guide to the legal sector.

The firm’s licensing team retained its Band 1 ranking - a position that it has maintained since 2020. The team is led by Stephen McGowan, who was awarded ‘Lawyer of the Year’ at the Scottish Legal Awards 2024, and was recently appointed to the board of the Scottish Tourism Alliance and Chair of the new Scottish government’s Task Force on Civic Licensing Reform. Caroline Loudon also remains Band 1 ranked in that team.

New this year, TLT achieved an additional ranking in construction. It has also retained its Band 2 rankings for debt recovery, insolvency and immigration.

14 lawyers from TLT’s Edinburgh and Glasgow based offices were ranked in this year’s guide, an increase from 2024. These include four Leading Partner rankings including a first-time inclusion for Projects, Infrastructure and Construction Partner, Stacey Cassidy

Douglas Roberts, Ainslie Benzie, Damien Bechelli and Keith Anderson were all ranked as Next Generation Partners, with Fiona Armour, Julie Nixon and Peter Smartt included as Leading Associates.

These strong rankings follow a busy and successful year for TLT in Scotland, which has seen the firm expand its office at Cadworks in Glasgow and move to the new, expanded ‘New Clarendon’ office in the heart of Edinburgh, more than doubling its footprint in the city. It also follows a year of record-breaking financial performance for TLT with revenue up to £187m for FY2024/2025, adding over 400% growth in turnover in six years in Scotland. The Glasgow and Edinburgh offices have played a central role in this success, acting as a cornerstone of the firm’s broader growth strategy.

John Paul Sheridan, Partner and Head of Location for Scotland at TLT said: “Another solid performance in this year’s Legal 500 rankings demonstrates our ongoing strength in Scotland. The past year has seen us underpin our commitment to the Scottish legal market with an expanded office space in Glasgow, and a move to a new Edinburgh office as we continue to deliver outstanding results for our clients, across our sectors.

“I have no doubt that there is plenty more success in our future and am excited for what comes next.”
