Tom Ward

Tom works in the Structured & Specialty Finance practice of the firm, focusing primarily on loan portfolio sales and acquisitions and forward flow funding.

Tom is regarded as an expert in this field and acts for buyers, sellers, funders and originators in connection with both secured and unsecured portfolios. Tom has acted on a number of high profile transactions, including the £50m acquisition of Fleet Mortgages by Starling Bank, the merger of Newcastle and Manchester Building Societies, the multi-billion FSMA Part VII transfer of the UK business of Triodos Bank NV, the acquisition of numerous portfolios of shared equity mortgages, the acquisition of the economic interest in a £120m equity release portfolio via a total return swap, the sale of the Sharia-compliant Alburaq portfolio by Bank of Ireland to Offa and the forward flow funding arrangement between Penrith Building Society and Generation Home.

Tom’s technical ability and eye for detail have been described as unrivalled. Tom has been recognised in Legal 500 as “…a details man. Knowledgeable, precise, personable and efficient”. Tom provides clients with an excellent service and sees issues from their perspective, having undertaken a 12-month secondment with NatWest.

Tom also advises on non-contentious restructuring and insolvency, and has a vast amount of experience in acting for insolvency office holders, lenders, boards of directors and acquirers of distressed businesses.
