My TLT World - Amina Harvey

Amina is a Trainee Solicitor at TLT. Below, Amina tells us about how TLT World allowed her to perform her previous full-time role as a Paralegal within the Real Estate Future Energy team, in addition to studying her LPC and LLM part-time alongside.

In law firms I had previously worked in, the ability to work flexibly or from home was not an option. This made studying alongside working very challenging and led to me having to reduce my working hours to part-time just to ensure that I was able to fit time for studying into my working week.

I am very pleased to say that working at TLT, thanks to TLT World, has made this a very different experience. I was effectively able to work full-time within the Real Estate Future Energy team as a Paralegal and study my LPC and LLM part-time alongside this at evenings and weekends. Those of you who have completed these qualifications or are in the process of doing so know just how much time you need to dedicate to your studies to enable you to perform to the best of your ability. Thanks to TLT World and the flexibility which underpins it, I was able to keep on top of all of my studies and successfully achieve a distinction overall, as well as being able to maintain a full-time job in the very busy Real Estate Future Energy team, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

TLT World gave me the ability to flex my working pattern to dovetail with my studies, enabling me to achieve an excellent work-life balance, improving my overall wellbeing and mental health. The time I would usually spend commuting was able to be spent on other activities, such as popping out to the gym or enjoying a walk with friends and family. I am pleased to say that this extra flexibility enabled me to effectively work on my Training Contract application for TLT, which led to me being offered a place in the September 2023 intake.

During my time in the Future Energy team, I would liaise with my line manager, Matt Grimwood regularly as to the days in which we would come into the office each week, so we could still have some face-to-face time together, which proven to be very beneficial and is a practice that seems to have been adopted by most teams across the firm.

I am pleased to be a part of a firm that trusts its employees enough to really promote a genuine hybrid working environment. It has many benefits and enabled me to successfully balance my studies, my TLT commitments and also gave me valuable time with friends and family, which has continued into my journey as a Trainee Solicitor at the firm.

TLT has also recently joined as a sponsor of the Flexible & Family Friendly Working All-Party Parliamentary Group, which focuses on achieving flexible working policies that support families across the country to remove the barriers that people with caring responsibilities face in the workplace. This demonstrates TLT’s passion for adopting flexible working models and, as a result, has helped to create a more inclusive working environmental for all.
