TLT furthers financial regulatory practice with new partner addition

UK national law firm TLT has welcomed leading adviser in the consumer finance and fintech fields, Ben Player, as a partner in its Financial Services Regulation (FSR) team.

Ben’s appointment continues a period of rapid growth for TLT’s financial services regulatory team, which has been driven by top regulatory lawyer Amanda Hulme who joined the firm in April 2024. Since her arrival, the team has grown to a team of sixteen and has been providing strategic and innovative legal guidance to TLT clients across a range of the firm’s focus sectors.

Ben, who re-joins TLT (where he trained and qualified) from Osborne Clarke, brings a broad FSR practice with a strong focus on regulated credit and insurance products. His expertise includes advising lenders and funders on a full range of financial products such as loans, credit cards and other running-account arrangements, mortgages, buy-now pay-later schemes, and the distribution of general insurance contracts; along with navigating the relevant regulatory frameworks, including the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR).

He is active within the fintech and green finance communities, where he has developed a reputation as a leading adviser and has been consistently ranked in the Chambers and Legal500 legal directories. Ben also has significant experience supporting corporate and banking transactions, particularly in conducting regulatory due diligence for both share and asset acquisitions, including forward-flow deals.

Amanda Hulme, Partner and Head of TLT’s Financial Services Regulatory team said: “Ben’s arrival is yet another statement of intent for our FSR team, which is expanding rapidly at a time when demand for cutting edge legal advice from financial services clients is growing.

“Ben is a pragmatic lawyer, who is embedded in the financial services sector and has his finger on the pulse, anticipating the needs of our clients. His appointment will be welcomed by our clients and colleagues and serves as a clear indication to the wider market of our ambition, depth of expertise, and readiness to deliver first-class legal counsel.”

Ben Player, Partner at TLT said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining this team in rapid growth mode, and to contribute to its continued success. The TLT FSR practice offers a robust and attractive platform from which I can continue to grow and develop my own practice and support clients across the firm’s key sectors to respond to regulatory change with agility and confidence.”

Ben marks the second fintech focused partner to join TLT in the space of a month, following the arrival of Jack Houselander in London.
