Ali is an experienced solicitor specialising in commercial contracts and public procurement, with particular expertise in the public sector.

Prior to joining TLT as a contracts and procurement lawyer, he worked at the Office of Speaker’s Counsel, which advises the Speaker and departments of the House of Commons. He has experience advising across the procurement life-cycle, including strategy and market engagement stage, contract drafting and negotiation, tender assessment and award, and contract management and modifications.

Ali studied Law at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he came fifth in his cohort in his first year. He qualified as a lawyer in 2018 at law firm Slaughter and May, where he practised as a client-focused “multi-specialist” adept at handling a wide variety of queries across practice areas. In 2019 he was seconded to the Cabinet Office to advise on contract and procurement matters during the height of political negotiations relating to the UK’s exit from the European Union.

He is also a specialist in the law-making process, having graduated in 2024 with a Distinction in the House of Commons’ flagship procedural course, the PGCert in “Advising MPs on Parliamentary Procedure”.

A large client has praised his "calm, considered and conscientious approach" to delivering solution-focused advice under pressure.
