TLT acts on acquisition of over 250 homes by Heart of Medway

National law firm TLT has advised Kent-based Heart of Medway housing association on the acquisition of more than 250 homes from social landlord L&Q.

The acquisition will see Heart of Medway, a registered housing association and subsidiary of mhs homes group, become landlord of an additional 292 customers based in Dartford and Gravesham. As well as supporting the growth and development of the housing association, the acquisition will also facilitate the construction of more affordable homes in the area.

TLT advised on all aspects of the transfer. The acquisition was led by Shazia Bashir, partner in TLT’s housing and regeneration team with support from Rebecca Thibault and involved cross-practice expertise from TLT’s planning; tax; construction; property litigation; tech, IP and data; and employment teams.

Ashley Hook, chief executive and mhs homes group board trustee said: “The acquisition of 292 homes by Heart of Medway will play a significant role in supporting the strategic growth of mhs homes group. Thanks to their in-depth understanding of the housing association market, the team at TLT was able to act as an additional arm to Heart of Medway, completing the acquisition in record time.”

Shazia Bashir, partner in TLT’s housing and regeneration team: “The acquisition of homes by Heart of Medway is reflective of an increase in activity we’re expecting to see in this area in 2024, as housing associations seek to address the UK’s affordable housing shortage. It was a pleasure to work with mhs homes group throughout this transaction. The support of Francis Gater from JLL Housing Consultancy was instrumental in getting the deal over the line. JLL Housing Consultancy also acted for Heart of Medway in an advisory role.”
