TLT further invests in Future Energy with appointment of new Corporate partner

UK national law firm TLT has appointed Michael Hamill as a Partner in its Corporate Future Energy team in Belfast. His arrival consolidates a period of strategic growth for the firm’s Future Energy sector, Corporate team and Northern Ireland presence, positioned for what comes next.

Joining TLT from Pinsent Masons, where he co-led the firm’s corporate team in Belfast, Michael brings more than a decade of experience advising renewable and conventional energy clients on complex corporate transactions including reorganisations, joint ventures, M&A, project development and regulatory compliance. His client base includes energy developers, utilities, and investors, with a focus on renewables projects in onshore and offshore wind, solar, battery storage, and hydro power technologies.

Recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ by the Legal 500, Michael has built a reputation for providing commercially focused and pragmatic advice that aligns with the firm’s commitment to being its clients’ top tier adviser. Qualified in England and Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland, Michael is ideally placed to meet the growing demand for cross-jurisdictional corporate advice in a sector that is highly active across borders.

His arrival also enhances the full-service offering that TLT has been building in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Michael’s arrival continues a period of significant strategic growth for TLT’s Future Energy team, following the completion of the UK’s largest legal practice dedicated to public law, infrastructure planning and future energy, and the appointment of commercial real estate and renewable energy specialist Nadia Wheeler, whose jurisdictional focus includes both England and Wales and Scotland. He is also the second high profile partner to join the national Corporate team this month, following the arrival of corporate finance and M&A specialist Andrew Glaze as a Partner in Birmingham.

Corporate Future Energy Partner Kay Hobbs commented: “Michael’s arrival is yet another demonstration of our commitment to excellence in corporate future energy legal practice. It is also an example of how we are anticipating and responding to client needs, by expanding our presence in jurisdictions where our clients are targeting growth.

“Michael is an accomplished, strategically focused colleague with a reputation that spans sector, practice and locations. His knowledge and experience complement perfectly the strength and depth of our existing Future Energy team and will enable us to meet the increased demand we anticipate from our clients across England and Wales; Northern Ireland; and the Republic of Ireland. He comes with some excellent client recommendations and we’re delighted to have him on board.”

Corporate Future Energy Partner Michael Hamill added: “As the UK government continues to encourage and accelerate the clean energy transition, clients increasingly need clear, strategic advice to navigate an evolving and complex landscape.

“With Northern Ireland’s newly published Renewable Energy Price Guarantee now establishing a clearer and more stable investment framework, the scheme is set to give investors the confidence and certainty they need to commit capital to new renewable projects. Coupled with the continued momentum and growth across the sector, the coming years promise to be an exciting period full of opportunity. TLT’s scale, ambition and impressive growth provide the ideal platform to collaborate with exceptional colleagues and further strengthen our practice and partnerships with clients.”
