Fiona has experience of advising both the trustees and employers of defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes on a wide variety of issues including risk management and regulatory compliance, complex liability management exercises, benefit change projects, member queries and scheme disputes, corporate transactions and buy-in / buy-outs and wind-ups.
Fiona originally qualified as an employment lawyer but was drawn to the technicalities of pensions law and retains a particular interest in the interface between pensions and employment law. In a previous role. Fiona was seconded to the in-house pensions team of a leading Birmingham-based snack manufacturer to support with a strategic scheme merger project.
Fiona is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers.

Experience
- Advising on numerous buy-ins and buy-outs with multiple insurance companies including preparing / reviewing benefit specifications; advising on contractual terms for bulk annuity contracts; and advising on process, trustees protections and deeds of termination on winding-up.
- General scheme advisory work, including on the General Code, the impact of the Virgin Media case for schemes at different stages of their lifecycle, and GMP equalisation.
- Providing support to both corporate and employment colleagues on pensions and life assurance issues including due diligence and advising on warranties in corporate documentation, and addressing queries on pension provisions in contracts, COT3s and settlement agreements.
- Advising on complex public sector pensions issues for contractors and outsourced services.
