Managing Associate

Ellie is a Manging Associate in our Pensions team.
She advises trustees and employers of defined benefit, defined contribution and contract-based pension schemes on a wide variety of pensions law issues, including day to day running of the pension scheme, de-risking exercises, liability reduction exercises and member complaints. Her particular focus is on risk transfer in defined benefit arrangements, including transfers to master trusts and buy-outs.
Ellie is a member of the Future Leaders in Pensions sub-committee of the Association of Pension Lawyers.

Experience
- Advising employers and trustees on the closure of pension schemes to future accrual, transfers to master trusts, buy-outs and various liability reduction exercises. This includes advice on preparation for buy-out, including breaking a final salary link, benefit specification reviews and GMP equalisation.
- Putting in place flexible apportionment arrangements and group company guarantees to assist with corporate re-organisations, where there is a defined benefit pension scheme in the group.
- Advising on the Pensions Regulator’s anti-avoidance powers and criminal sanctions in the context of corporate activities that might affect the group’s pension scheme.
- Advising on the set up and structuring of pension scheme provision for high earners.
- Advising XPS Pensions Group on the pensions legal and regulatory aspects of its disposal of its master-trust business to SEI, including securing the approval of the Pensions Regulator.
