TLT continues expansion of future energy team with appointment of regulatory expert
Juliet has joined TLT from CMS UK, where she provided regulatory and commercial advice to clients operating in the future energy sector, including generators, suppliers, offtakers/traders, network owners and operators, interconnector developers, and public sector stakeholders. Juliet’s experience has also included working in the water sector and has supported the development of emerging sectors such as carbon capture, transport and storage.
Juliet has developed a reputation for being a well-known and trusted advisor in the future energy sector and was recognised as a leading practitioner (Global) in Power/Electricity in WWL Energy in 2022 and 2023. Praised as a ‘go-to, especially for Ofgem regulatory matters’, Juliet’s in-depth knowledge of the future energy regulatory framework will be instrumental in bolstering TLT’s future energy offering and enhancing the breadth of services it offers to clients in this space.
Kay Hobbs, partner in TLT’s corporate future energy team, commented: “The future energy sector and the broader drive to net-zero are continuing to move forward at pace with policy and regulation playing a key role in facilitating and driving the movement forward. Having a clear understanding of the regulatory framework is a must-have for businesses wanting to thrive in the sector and exploit opportunities. Juliet’s appointment will place TLT at the forefront of changes, allowing the firm to help clients navigate the well-known challenges of the policy and regulatory landscape. We’re delighted to welcome Juliet to the team.”
Commenting on her appointment, Juliet said: “We are seeing rapid change throughout the future energy sector and, with major regulatory reform on the horizon, it is very exciting to be joining a firm which is so committed to supporting its clients on their journey to net-zero. TLT’s portfolio of clients in the future energy space is extensive and diverse and I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues to help these clients navigate the challenges ahead to support their growth and development, all the while playing a part in the UK’s transition to net-zero.”
In the last year, TLT’s future energy team has advised on the development of, or investment into, over 10 GW of future energy projects. TLT was ranked as the second most active adviser in terms of the number of M&A deals completed in 2022 by Clean Energy Pipeline’s 2023 Clean Energy Legal League Table.
The future energy team has continued to invest in talented future energy lawyers with key strategic hires, most recently welcoming managing associate John Arthur to its planning and environment team. John has extensive experience advising on nationally significant infrastructure projects and the DCO application and examination processes, as well as significant experience of the EIA and Habitats Regulations.
