Partner

He focuses almost exclusively on all legal real estate aspects of clean energy, grid support and related projects including wind (onshore and offshore), solar (ground based and rooftop), tidal, biomass, anaerobic digestion, battery storage, electric vehicle charging and interconnectors as well as securing funding for, and selling, such projects, and advising funders and purchasers of such projects.
Joe has used his experience to advise on projects which do not ‘fit the mold’. He has developed from scratch various ownership models and land right documentation (due to the infancy of the market at the time) for electric vehicle charging points as well as facility/draw down contracts to enable the roll out of thousands of charging points across a large landowner’s UK portfolio. He has also led on multi-jurisdictional clean energy projects adapting documents to different regulatory environments and cultures.
Jurisdiction: England & Wales
Experience
- Advising on the acquisition and simultaneous financing of two of the top ten largest biomass plants in the UK (both at a value of circa. £160m with a combined capacity of 80MW) and subsequently the conversion of one of these plants to an Energy from Waste plant.
- Other highlights include numerous large acquisitions and financings of onshore wind portfolios on behalf of investor clients and banks.
- The acquisition of multi-site ground based solar portfolios including the acquisition of 16 projects for a US based investor.
