Recent highlights

• Acting for BEAR Scotland in continuing holiday pay litigation in Scotland and UK, together with all other tribunals and day-to-day advice. 

• Acting for Ortus Secured Finance in connection with funding the acquisition of an industrial park, including extensive intra-group debt arrangements and negotiation of intercreditor terms to rank vendor and mezzanine security. 

• Acted for Sainsbury’s Bank plc in relation to the relocation of their head office in Scotland which included service of a break notice for their existing office facilities in Lochside Avenue, Edinburgh and the negotiation of their new lease at Parabola’s development 1 New Park Square, Edinburgh Park (a development which has a sustainable ethos designed to minimise environmental impact whilst promoting the wellbeing of occupiers and residents) and associated car parking licences.

• Advising Celtic Football Club on Scottish licensing law for stadium events and football games and the full range of implications across health and safety, fan management and crowd control and auditing compliance with evolving legislative framework.

• Acted for the Energy Saving Trust, in a groundbreaking partnership with NatWest and Airbnb, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of UK Airbnb hosts’ homes. The work involved negotiating an amendment to the existing Airbnb and Energy Saving Trust agreement to add NatWest as a party. 

• Instructed by Interpath Ltd to prepare and file papers to appoint joint administrators to Le Chardon D’or Limited (now in administration), a very high profile company which ran the famous Scottish fine dining restaurant “Le Chardon D’or”

• Acting for Abdul Majid / Judicial Review Deposit Return Scheme in a challenge to the fixing of prices for the return of glass, plastic and metal packaging under the deposit return scheme a landmark piece of Scottish Legislation. The introduction of the fee affects every retailer in Scotland and in particular has a negative financial impact on circa 2000 small grocer shops. We acted in the test case on behalf of the Scottish Grocers federation of over 1500 unit ( including Spar , Coop, Scotmid and G1)

• Advised Scottish-based future energy development company, Intelligent Land Investments Group P.L.C (ILI), on the completion of the sale of two landmark future energy projects, which will support the development of renewable energy in the UK. These included the sale of the Red John Pumped Storage Hydro scheme located on the banks of Loch Ness to Statkraft – Europe’s largest producer of renewable power, founded in Norway – and the sale of its 50MW battery storage project Balnacraig, Alness, Highlands to EDP Renewables (part of Euronext-listed multinational, EDP Group).

• Advised family-owned steel company Alexander (Scotland) & Co Ltd on its sale to an employee ownership trust. Alexander (Scotland) & Co Ltd has been serving customers across Scotland for 75 years.
