Senior Associate

Aranya specialises in infrastructure planning, and parliamentary law in particular the authorisation of major infrastructure projects under the Planning Act 2008, and the Transport and Works Act 1992.

These include schemes in the energy, transport and airport sectors. Aranya advises promotors and objectors on all aspects of the consenting process. Her experience includes scheme development (including optioneering), consenting strategy, advice on complex environmental matters, advising on the examination/inquiry process and negotiating third party agreements. Aranya also has experience in judicial review and securing material and non-material changes to made Development Consent Orders.  

Aranya offers expertise in statutory drafting and parliamentary procedure. She is one of a small number of lawyers who has advised on the promotion of private Bills in Parliament in recent years.

She was a founding member of the National Infrastructure Planning Association Early Years Practitioners network.

Jurisdiction: England and Wales

Experience

  • Advised on two solar projects and an energy from waste facility. These were of national significance and the subject of development consent order applications. 
  • Advised on the reopening of an airport under the Planning Act 2008. Acted as the lead advisor throughout a redetermination process following a judicial review claim, resulting in the development consent order being re-made. 
  • Advised on the promotion of three private Bills in Parliament.
