TLT advises Biffa on acquisition of Total Recycling Services
TRS employs around 100 people and has three sites across the North-East, including a liquid transfer facility and a hazardous waste transfer station. The acquisition will support Biffa’s strategic growth plans in the industrial services sector, providing the company with a high-profile presence in the North-East for the first time.
TLT’s corporate team, led by partner Alice Gardner with support from Luke Thorngate-Davies, Jessie Cockhill and Amy Tough, advised Biffa on all legal aspects of the acquisition. The deal also involved cross-sector expertise from TLT’s tax, pensions and incentives and employment teams.
Paul Tillstone, Head of Corporate Finance and Investor Relations at Biffa said: “This is a fantastic acquisition that provides us with an industrial services presence in the North-East for the first time. This is the second corporate acquisition TLT guided us on and we’re once again grateful for the help of the whole team at TLT who supported us in getting the transaction over the line.”
Alice Gardner, corporate partner at TLT said: “It was a pleasure to work with the team at Biffa in their acquisition of TRS and to support on the company’s industrial services expansion into the North-East. This deal shows that despite the recent economic headwinds a strong appetite remains to use M&A activity to open new opportunities by strategic acquisition.”
In 2021, TLT advised Biffa on its £10m acquisition of Scotland’s only postconsumer plastics recycling facility from Green Circle Polymers Ltd in Grangemouth. See here
