Investors & investment management

We operate across the UK advising institutional investors, corporate entities, funds and private equity companies, pension providers, private individuals and international clients of all kinds on their investment activities.
Investable asset classes and the categories of investor are becoming more diverse, which reflects the client base we work with.
We provide innovative technology-based solutions to help clients manage transactions and portfolios, ensuring they can access the information they need quickly and efficiently.
Our key areas of focus are:
Institutional investors & funders
We help clients with every aspect of their investment activity - from advising on the establishment of funds or other investment vehicles, including offshore, to acquisitions and disposals including related funding requirements. We also support clients with asset management, including lettings and dispute resolution. Some of our lawyers have been seconded to investment houses, giving us valuable insight into the key issues affecting funders and management teams.
Loan portfolio acquirers
What makes us stand out is our ability to advise on all aspects of a portfolio sale - from negotiating the sale documents themselves, to advising on templates and regulatory issues (including relevant permissions, due diligence on documentation and processes and procedures), to resourcing large due diligence projects cost-effectively, and handling large scale transfers of portfolios and litigation.
Private equity & venture capital
Our team is firmly embedded in the UK's start-up ecosystem and is heavily involved in advising businesses and investors on some of the UK's most significant transactions and supporting the growth ambitions of leading businesses in their field.
TLT is also heavily involved in some of the UK's most successful and pioneering business growth initiatives, including Tech Nation's Rising Stars programme and the Barclays Eagle Labs LawTech incubator based in London.
We were awarded 'Best Legal Team for Early Stage Deals' category at the UK Business Angels Association (UKBAA) Angel Investment Awards 2019.
Investment management
Our investment management team is strong in all private client disciplines and corporate taxation matters. We are particularly strong in international tax and trust law issues. Our expertise includes contentious and non-contentious trusts; personal tax, including partnerships and family investment companies; taxation of financial products, pensions, life insurance and mental capacity law.
