Building contracts

We prepare and negotiate private and public sector building contracts for projects of any size. We understand the procurement options open to those engaging with the construction industry.
We advise on the appropriate allocation of construction and commercial risk to those best able to manage it, including through insurance where appropriate. We provide guidance on the proper management of that risk, be it a typical JCT, design and build structure or a complex multiple contract arrangement for a major project. We work with corporate clients of all sizes. Global manufacturers and retailers, major national and regional builders, and commercial land developers are regular clients.
We also work with registered housing associations and public bodies including local authorities, police forces and other governmental departments and agencies. We act for service providers including the country's leading property service company.
Procuring a construction project can be complex, with numerous stakeholders' interests to balance, such as funders, purchasers, tenants, occupiers and supply chain. We're used to advising all such stakeholders at different stages on their diverse interests.
As well as JCT forms, the team has vast experience in using NEC, PPC 2000, FIDIC and many other standard forms of contract.
For design and build arrangements, we provide and negotiate a full suite of consultant appointments and ancillary agreements to ensure the financial security of the project as a whole. Our experienced team provides the very best quality service for construction contract advisory work available. We understand how to optimise a client's position in the preparation and negotiation of robust contracts, and doing what is right for our clients and their projects to succeed.
Experience
- Advising Eelpower on its acquisition of one of the UK's largest energy storage schemes from Anesco. Eelpower is an independent provider of flexible energy services and has multiple long-term Firm Frequency Response (FFR) contracts from National Grid.
- Acting for a major central government department in connection with the drafting and procurement of a suite of contracts to replace the department's existing PFI arrangements.
- As part of our innovative co-sourcing arrangement we are advising the government legal department's team in relation to the procurement of the design of the pavilion and are now advising in respect of the contractor procurement.
