Financial services litigation

We are one of the UK's largest teams working in the field of financial services litigation. Our highly specialist lawyers have significant experience in acting and resolving a variety of disputes and claims that could impact an organisation's reputation.
We've acted for most of the UK's major banks for many years. We also act for niche mortgage lenders, building societies, and international banks with offices in the City. We advise across the whole spectrum of contentious issues associated with investment, commercial, business, and motor and consumer finance.
We regularly advise our clients on the complete range of disputes they face and the claims they wish to bring. The team deals with high value and complex disputes and group claims, which often require innovative pricing solutions as part of an overall package.
We are well known for our work acting for banks and lenders in large scale regulatory investigations. We've handled significant projects involving mis-selling of financial products and FCA investigations.
We aim to get to the heart of the matter quickly and to then target resolution in a commercial and pragmatic way. Our aim is to ensure the cost and time impact on our client is kept to the minimum, and where possible to help preserve relationships with customers.
Who we work with
- A major project for a bank arising out of allegations of mis-selling of interest swap products and the related Financial Conduct Authority review. This involved extensive fact finding, interviewing customers and working seamlessly with our client and also the appointed independent person.
- We are the lead firm in a high profile litigation action before the Supreme Court relating to sale and rent back transactions. The outcome is of industry-wide significance as fundamental issues of property and trust law are under analysis.
- The team has led a high profile international group of claims arising out of the most significant legal firm casualty of the economic downturn. This has meant litigating in the US as well as other jurisdictions in Europe.
- Our Northern Ireland office has been dealing with a multi-million pound claim against one of our major bank clients. The claims alleged are complex and have involved us reviewing tens of thousands of documents to investigate the serious claims made.
